STEP 1: INSTALLING THE OS

Ubuntu
So you are getting sick of windows. It's getting slow, video codecs are a pain, or you are just plain bored of it. Well, install Ubuntu. Ubuntu is a linux based operating system, its open-sourced (free), and it works better than windows seven could have ever hoped to. If you really have attachment issues with windows, you can even leave it there as a partition (switch between the two OS's at computer start up). In this guide, I will step by step you into the world of linux, and you can leave Windows, bloody and battered on the sidewalk, like a filthy whore.
1)Download Ubuntu

2)Make a Live-CD

3)Leave the CD you created in your Disk Drive and restart your computer

4)At this point, you should be pulled into the Ubuntu Installer, If you are not, you may have to restart again, and enter the boot options (usually hit f10 or f12 right at start up) and change the boot order so your CD/DVD drive is ahead of your HDD.

5)Once you are in the installer, just follow the steps, there are a few key things to remember:
  • Make sure you connected to internet via ethernet cable.
  • When there are check mark boxes that ask if you want third party codecs and if you want to download updates, CHECK THEM BOTH
  • If partitioning, leave at least 20GB, at least.

6)When all is said and done, you will have Ubuntu successfully installed, before we get into the bling part though, here are a few non-appearance related tips
  • Check and Download new updates FREQUENTLY, the software you use is constantly being updated
  • Check for proprietary drivers under System>Administration>Additional Drivers after the install is complete, you may need them for your graphics card, wireless card, etc.
